Ulun Danu Batur temple

One of the temples in Bali which is often visited by tourists is Ulun Danu Beratan located on the shores of  Beratan Lake, Bedugul, Tabanan, Bali. This temple is precisely located in the village of Candi Kuning, Baturiti District, Tabanan regency which is about 50 kilometers from north of Denpasar.

Ulun Danu Batur, located near the village of Batur. This is the most important temple after Besakih which has more than 90 temples. Sightseeing Ulun Danu Beratan Bedugul founded in the 13th century by Marga Tabanan Puri family ancestors and is now jointly managed pekraman residents from 17 villages around the temple. It’s amazing how little people realize that the ocean is a wilderness without any mercy. They set out in rinky-dink vessels to have some fun or adventure, then find machinery failing and them the subject of a slow and torturous death. The crew of Flor Maria is fortunate enough to be able to flag down a merchant. They haven’t even brought a radio and we discover them waving white flags, somewhere on the amorphous expanse of the Pacific Ocean. We slow down and try to drift along side, fully aware that at any time we might get a bazooka trained on us for our trouble.

“Does anyone speak Spanish?”

“I speak,” says Ludin, popping up from the galley. He is a small man but he has a voice strong enough to cut steel.

“Ask them politely what their problem is.”

Ludin leans over the railing and thunders, “What you want? You evil Somali bastards!!”

“That wasn’t Spanish.”

“They understand,” says Ludin with a fatherly nod and heads back to the galley.

The crew of the Flor Maria set out on a fishing trip five days ago, lost their water tank and refrigeration. They haven’t eaten in two days and are still a long way from shore. We pitch a line, tie six-packs of Brazilian mineral water to it, and run them over. Bags with bread and fruit follow. Blessings and curses waft from our torrid decks. Then we disconnect and go our separate ways. 

Soon we are tiny specks on each other’s horizon. The world arches its back between us and spreads its final wilderness like an open hand that lets us go.

Trekking to Mount Batur

Mount of Batur located in Bangli regency. The height are for about1717 meters above sea, and quite active volcanoes. Located in the northwest of Mount Agung, the mountain has a caldera measuring 13.8 x 10 kilometers and  be one of the largest and most beautiful in the world. Caldera ridge height ranging from 1267 meters to 2152 meters.
Mount Batur has erupted  many times. Since 1804, Mount Batur has erupted about 26 times. The most powerful eruptions occurred on 2 August to 21 September 1926. The eruption of Mount Batur is a flow of hot lava pile Village Ulun Danu Batur and Batur. The last eruption occurred in 2000.
Ascent to Mount Batur provide a matchless charm when you arrive at the summit before sunrise. At that time, you will see the natural beauty of Bali that watered the morning light. In addition to carpet the lake of Batur, the same  place  you can see the towering graceful of Agung Mount  , even Mount of Rinjani in Lombok island.

If you do trekking with a travel agency, for a one-time trip, you are charged about Rp 550 thousand per person. The price includes transfers to and from hotel, guide, lamp lighting during ascent, mineral water, fruit, hot water entrance ticket, lunch, and donations cost.
There is also offering a package to stay with the price of Rp 750 thousand per person (minimum two people). The price includes transfers from and to hotel, welcome drink, snacks, dinner, soft drinks, guide, lamp lighting during ascent, mineral water, standard room for two people, mountain-style breakfast, fruit, water entrance ticket, lunch and donations.
If you entrust these climbing arrangements to travel agents, they will ask for a fee of about USD 2.6 million per person with participants at least two people. The price includes transfers hotel in Kuta / Sanur / Nusa Dua / Ubud, also including porters, guide, entrance fees to National Parks of Mount Agung, climbing equipment, sleeping bag, cooking equipment, mattresses, lighting storms, food, insurance. Beyond that, will be charged again.

Machupiccu - A Crystal from a Dissolved Past

Out through the Peruvian dessert, through countless centuries, lies the mysterious city of Machupiccu; an abandoned ruined town that defies logic or explanation. It once was a bustling hub, then suddenly its people upped and left without a trace. Theories abound but no really solid explanation has been offered on what happened to the Machupiccians.

There’s also no real sound reason why I let my man Ludin, lamo extraordinaire, go on a trip to that fabled town - other than my desire to see pictures taken by someone who’s not a professional, and whose intuitive aim may bring back impressions that can’t be found in a National Geographic or Wikipedia page.

A few hours before departure Ludin still hasn’t shown up. We raise the agent on the VHF and inquire about the local coop. Knowing Ludin, he’s probably in there explaining things.

“We’re looking for a short Filipino dude who talks a lot and carries a Canon.”

“Yes,” says a tired voice on the other end, “He fell asleep with Estelle.”

“Have you tried to wake him?”

[no reply]

“Shout in his ear that he’s an evil bastard and his ship is leaving and he can stay in Peru with no money!”

[the phone’s put down]

“Edgar’s fault,” pants Ludin when he ascends the gangway, wafting like a brewery and wearing clothes he hadn’t before.

“Did Edgar push you into a bucket of Johnny Walker? Who the hell is Edgar?”

“Edgar is an evil bastard,” Ludin points out in the obvious conviction that everything is sorted out now.

It takes quite a bit of threatening for Ludin to break down. Apparently, Ludin met Edgar on the bus to Machupicchu, and Edgar talked Ludin into letting him use his Canon. But this Edgar took such a liking to the camera that he wouldn’t part with it, and Ludin (wholly against his nature and upbringing) was forced to trot after Edgar for two days, until he fell asleep with Estelle.

Obviously, Ludin will scrub filters for the next six weeks. Edgar was never heard from again. Below are some of the pictures from the boys’ excursion (omitting the pictures of Estelle and friends):

tips and tricks before visiting Komodo island

Komodo ISLAND and Rinca island  are two interesting locations to visit. Two exotic locales that you can reach through Labuan Bajo, the capital of West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

Here are some tips for your journey in both two island :

1. Flights to Labuan Bajo can be done from Bali and Kupang.

2. Travel to the island of Komodo and Rinca Island must use the ship. There are many kinds of  marine transport that can be used, like the yacht, speed boat, regular boat or even traditional boat called klotok. Rental prices in one day starting from Rp1 million to 50 million depending on the type of vessel.

3. The duration of the trip from Labuan Bajo to Komodo Island for about 2-5 hours, depending on the type of ship used.

4. Entrance fee per person Rp20 thousand (local) and $ 15 for foreign tourists. Cameras, camcorders, etc. will get additional cost.

5. Currently, tourists can choose go to the island of Komodo or Rinca Island. Both have its own characteristics, it's just the distance Komodo Island from Labuan Bajo further.

6. Location of Komodo Island are so wider. The range area can be selected based on short, medium or long route. Location of Rinca Island is smaller, but also divided into three tracks.
